Believers Meet Bible

The Gospel

The good news of Jesus Christ.

The saving message preached to the lost, how that Christ died for all of our sins and rose bodily from the dead (Rom 4:24-25, 1 Cor 15:3-4).

Jesus Christ

The Son of God and Son of Man.

God manifest in the flesh, born of a virgin, and the Savior of mankind (John 1:1-3, 1 Tim 3:16, John 4:42) .

The Bible

The inspired and infallible Word of God.

The King James Bible is the final authority for the believer and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16).

Salvation

Salvation from the penalty of sin.

Salvation and eternal life are a free gift offered by God. One can freely accept this gift by believing in Christ. To put one’s faith in Christ is to be persuaded of the truth of the gospel message, trusting in Christ rather than one’s own good works (Rom 6:23, John 3:16, Rom 1:16, Acts 16:30-31).

Works

The deeds of the law.

Works are an important part of a Christian’s daily life, but play no part in meriting, maintaining, or verifying a believer’s salvation. Believers should strive to do good works because they are inherently good, but must be careful to recognize their distinction from salvation (Rom 4:5, Eph 2:8-9, Gal 2:21, Titus 3:8).

Eternal Life

The eternal security of the believer.

Upon believing in Christ, the believer is eternally secure and sealed with the Holy Spirit of God. Eternal life is presently possessed and cannot be lost (Eph 1:13, John 5:24).

More On What We Believe

The Future

The Rapture and Millennium.

We believe there will be a rapture of the Church (body of believers). Our members hold to different timings of the rapture. Some believe the biblical evidence indicates a pre-tribulation rapture, while others believe in a pre-wrath rapture. We believe that Christ will return after the great tribulation to reign on earth for 1000 years.

Repentance

A Change of Mind.

Repentance in the Bible simply means a change of mind. The context of the passage determines what the agent is changing their mind from and towards (Heb 6:1). A common misunderstanding is that repentance intrinsically entails a turning from sins. Repenting from sin is a work (Jonah 3:10) and therefore plays no part in the salvation of a believer. God repented more than any individual in the Bible, meaning the word cannot intrinsically mean a turning from sin (e.g., Jeremiah 18:8-10).

Water Baptism

Act of Profession and Obedience.

Water baptism is an outward profession of a believers inward regenerate status. It plays no role in salvation as it constitutes a work. A believer should be water baptized as a picture of their salvation because God desires it.

Marriage

The Two Become One Flesh.

Marriage is the union of a man and a woman. A husband should treat his wife with love and respect, and vice versa (Eph 5:25-30).

Church

A Congregation of Believers.

Church is the physical meeting of believers. Believers should attend a church (Heb 10:25) if possible and participate in activities like exhortation, study, and general fellowship. The Church represents the aggregate body of all believers, while a church represents the more localized grouping of Christians. Any congregation of believers constitutes a church; it is not exclusive to any religious organization or physical setting.
